Distinguished people of Gofargaon: Many prominent and noble persons have been born in this upazila. Some of Gofargaon's people were respected by respecting all contemporary leaders.
Late Moulana Md. Shamsul Huda Panchbagi (R):
Eminent Islamic thinkers and religious preachers. One of the fighters of anti-British freedom movement He was a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1937 to 1954.
Language Shaheed al-Jabbar (1919-1952):
He was born in 26 Ashwin (1919) of 1326 at Panchua village under Gafargaon police station of Mymensingh district. After a period of study in local school, he left his education due to poverty and helped his father farming. One day in the hope of earning more than 15 years of age, Narayanganj left the house unaware of the train and joined the train. In the shipyard, he came in contact with an Englishman and with the help of him, Abdul Jabbar went to Burma with a job. During his stay in Burma, he acquired the English language. After twelve years, he returned home. In 1952, he came to Dhaka with his wife for treatment of her mother-in-law. On February 20, mother-in-law was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. On February 21, 1952, a mass gathering was held in Dhaka Medical College hostel premises demanding state language Bangla. Abdul Jabber also joined the rally. When the police fired on the student-crowd, he was shot and killed in Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In February 2000, he was awarded posthumous Ekushey Padak.
Rangala Kiran Chandra De
Among the people who were born in Gafargaon, Gafargaon was blessed, in the case of Rangara Kiran Chandra Dey one. He took the first position in the first class from the University of Cambridge in London, and was awarded the title of Ranger. There were only two Rangarars in the then India. Krishna Govinda Gupta of Rangala, a resident of Bhatpara. Anandamohan Bose, the happy person of the name of the other Jaisidih village. He married a sister of Pramesh Barua, the zamindar of Goalpara district of Assam. After a few years his wife died, he also became blind.
Late Gias Uddin Khan sent:
Gofargaon's eminent political personality, lawyer and later, was the minister of the central government of Pakistan. This minority social worker left Islam in 1964 in Dhaka.
Late Moulana Mohiuddin Khan:
Eminent Islamic thinker and editor of monthly Medina.
Late Munshi Hurmat Ullah
Prominent leaders of the anti-British movement.
Kalimadad Khan:
Everyone knows Kalimadad Khan, who is popularly known as 'Ferrari Spring', a collection of poems. The English grammar book he wrote got wide popularity all over the country.
Khodadad Khan:
Renowned mathematician Professor of mathematics department of Dhaka University and author of several books on mathematics
Late Altaf Hossain Goldandaj
Distinguished political personality of Gofargaon He was a former Upazila Chairman and was a Member of Parliament for three times.
Fazlur Rahman Sultan:
Gofargaon's eminent political personality, former MP, dramatist and co-ordinator Mymensingh was a chairman of the Central Cooperative Bank.
Late Dr. M. A. Hadee
Eminent doctors in Bangladesh. Banga was the Vice Chancellor of Sheikh Mujib Medical University. He was elected president of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).
Mohammad Abul Hashim
Member of East Pakistan Provincial Assembly and Member of Parliament of Bangladesh.
Dr. Mohammad Anwarul Islam
He secured first position in the first class of MSc from Dhaka University and obtained his PhD in Phis-culture and Management from the University of Texas at the University of Texas in 1972. He joined the Department of Fisheries in Mymensingh Agricultural University. Later, he was elected Vice-Chancellor of the same university. He is the editor of Bangladesh Journal of Aquaculture.
Late Askar Ali Sarkar:
Distinguished Social Worker Even though he could not take higher education, he established English High School in his own name in Kandi Para village in 1906. In 1935, when the Constitution of India was enacted, Union Board was established accordingly, and in 1945 he was presiding as the President until his death.
